Ashley delivered an excellent photographic workshop at Painshill Park, which was suitable for all levels.
Having bought my camera 3 years ago, I feel I understand the controls much better and will have fun using it. It will take practice, but at least I know have the knowledge to create lovely photos.....so just need to keep shooting!
(Reviewed May 2023)
Had a fantastic day at the beautiful Painshill Park being taught by Ashley who was welcoming, patient, knowledgeable and fun which made the day an absolute pleasure. I just need to keep up my side of the bargain and keep practicing!! Lots to learn and remember but we have modules and plenty of info provided so no excuses! Thank you Imber Court Photo Training and thank you to my bf who bought me the day as a birthday present :) (Reviewed April 2023)
This was a very informative and well run 1 day course at Chichester marina. Ashley, pitched it at just the right level and I certainly left a lot more confident about the settings and how better to use my camera. Would 100% recommend. (Reviewed April 2023)
A very enjoyable experience, relaxed atmosphere, friendly trainer who made the day interesting and informative. Excellent delivery of course and Ashley was patient with us beginners.
Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to understand and find their way around their camera. With a well balanced day of theory and practical. Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitley consider a further days course later in the year. (Reviewed April 2023)
Great course for beginners with the basics explained in a very clear and practical way. Ashley is a highly personable and patient teacher with a wealth of practical knowledge. He explains things in a clear methodical manner. I learnt a lot and would definitely consider further courses. (Reviewed March 2023)
Ashley made the course on the day so easy to follow. I have had my camera a few years but I now feel confident to come out of Auto mode and put into practice what was taught on the course. (Reviewed March 2023)
I attended the course together with my wife Sue as we have both started amateur photography. The course was pitched at exactly the right level and delivered by Ashley in such a way that he was engaged with us and explained everything with regular checks that we were following him. Would recommend Ashley 100% to anyone contemplating attending one of his courses and we hope to join another in the not-too-distant future. (Reviewed November 2022)
We all met at Painshill Park and after short introductions Ashley got on with explaining just how we could use our cameras to get results that we want, not what the camera thinks we want. A good mix of classroom and outdoors practical work gave us plenty of practice. There is a big difference between reading something in a book (or on the internet) and being able to discuss it with a tutor. I am glad I did this course and I recommend it to anyone who wants to start taking control of their camera. (Reviewed October 2022)
Excellent course, delivered in a relaxed atmosphere.
The information given was easy to understand and then a practical element allowed us to practice our new skills
Looking forward to attending another course (Reviewed July 2022)
Very well run and delivered course in basic photography. Very relaxed but focussed environment which provided excellent instruction on how to use our cameras and lenses to get better photographs and also to improve our understanding of photography and the equipment. Excellent venue at Chichester Yacht Club which was a good venue to learn with beautiful surroundings for outdoor practical photography.
Ashley was an expert, experienced tutor who created a relaxed environment for us to learn and him to teach us the basics.
A thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding day - accompanied by emailed modules for future reference.
I would not hesitate to recommend.
Many thanks, Neil (Reviewed June 2022)
An excellent introductory day. Ashley was a very patient teacher (Reviewed May 2022)
Ashley was an excellent trainer, patient and willing to recap on anything not understood.
Ashley was very down to earth and really understood how difficult some people might find the information. I must say I found everything was very well explained and there was a good amount of detail and many examples.
This was a great course for beginners, it gives you the confidence to start taking photos without using auto all the time.
I feel like I have a new camera with all the knowledge I have gained. (Reviewed May 2022)
If you want to grasp, with confidence, the fundamentals of photography, this is the course for you. Ashley's friendly, clear style coupled with his huge experience made this a very enjoyable day. I was very inspired and have already invested in a camera (thanks to Ashley's helpful advice!). (Reviewed April 2022)
As a complete beginner, I found Ashley to be very patient, knowledgeable and a fantastic teacher. The results are stunning as I took some great looking pictures on the day. He has real passion for the craft and sparks interest in anyone that listens to him. I will be spending some time learning more and coming back to Ashley to for some Advanced training. Really really happy with what I've learned. (Reviewed March 2022)
After completing a course with Ashley a few years earlier which was super beneficial and gave me so much insight on how to use and experiment with my camera, I instantly contacted Ashley to arrange a 1-1 to learn lighting and studio techniques to enable me to feel confident to pursue a career with photography. Ashley knows his stuff and comes across so professional and friendly that I felt very comfortable to ask questions, practice and learn in a beautiful calm environment. I highly recommend Ashley and his courses 5* Thank you, I am very grateful for your time and teaching (Reviewed February 2022)
I've dabbled with photography for years, attended camera clubs, was even married to a photographer but no-one has succeeded in explaining ISOs, F-stops, apertures, shutter speeds in a way that made any sense to me....until now.
Ashley was so relaxed, listened to me, obviously got a very good handle on where I was at knowledge-wise and explained things in a way that made sense. He completely de-mystified it, encouraged me to experiment, provided relaxed learning opportunities and left me enthused and confident enough to continue my learning journey on my own.
I can't recommend Ashley enough. Best photographic training out there, I reckon. (Reviewed November 2021)
I attended a half day one to one session with Ashley being a complete beginner to photography. I found the session very informative. Ashley has a very relaxed approachable manner making me feel at ease and delivered the course with great clarity.
(Reviewed November 2021)
A fantastic day with Ashley, I have learnt how to use my camera in the best way possible and to set up and take photos. The day was very informative and I am really looking forward to to putting everything into practice that I learnt.
(Reviewed September 2021)
A very pleasant afternoon spent with Ashley at Painshill Park. An excellent teacher who took things at your pace imparting some fantastic skills. The difference in quality in my photos before and after my time with Ashley is incredible. Highly recommended. (Reviewed August 2021)
Beginners Photography Course with Ashley at Chichester Yacht Club on 24/07/2021. Thoroughly excellent day! Learnt a lot of new stuff about switching the camera off from 'Auto' mode and experimenting with Shutter priority and Aperture priority shooting modes instead. This course starts with the basics and builds from there and Ashley is good at making it all make sense, (which is just what me and my wife Denise needed). Really do recommend this course. (Reviewed July 2021)
Attended one day beginner course.
The course was well presented and received lots of helpful advice and tips.
The course was explained professionally and explained in easy to understand terms.
I would recommend this course for anybody wishing to learn how to use all functions all your camera.
Lots to take away and put into practice.
Will look at booking a night course in the future
Thanks to Ashely for a great worthwhile day (Reviewed June 2021)
Excellent one day photography course at Painshill park, cobham. Ashley was a brilliant instructor & learnt so much in one day! Spent the next few days putting the course into action & noticed a huge improvement in my photography skills, thank you! (Reviewed May 2021)
This course is mainly designed for people who are new to photography or looking for some clarity. It provides an extremely comprehensive overview of everything you need to really understand what you need to do to improve your photography. For me as an experienced photographer I was concerned early on that i had wasted my money but I learnt so much it was brilliant.
My only slight gripe would be we were in one of the best locations in the country to really enjoy the skills of photography but didn't really use that landscape enough. (Reviewed May 2021)
I only wish I had done this course sooner and spent each lockdown practising. Ashley is a great trainer with a matching personality. My camera was a challenge but he worked it out with patience and I feel I have learnt so much in just a day. I am enthused to get out and practise and am sure I will be back for another course very soon. (Reviewed May 2021)
A really great day's photo training. Relaxed, good humoured, effortlessly catering to a whole range of experience and knowledge.
I would thoroughly recommend to anyone - beginners or old guys like me that have been taking photos for about 45 years.
Ashley is a really good trainer and enjoyable company. (Reviewed October 2020)
I attended the one day beginners photography course at Painshill Park. The course was delivered by Ashley in a friendly and professional manner and pitched at just the right level for a learner like me.
There is a good mix of classroom theory and also the chance to then try the theory in the beautiful grounds of the park. I feel that I have learnt very much to now build on as my photography improves.
I would highly recommend this course for anyone wanting to improve their skills get off of 'Auto'. (Reviewed August 2020)
I attended a one day DSLR beginners course run by Ashley Gardner. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and Ashley was a friendly, patient and easy going teacher with a great sense of humour. I felt the day included the right amount of information for a beginner and included classroom sessions and then the opportunity to practise what we had learnt in the beautiful surroundings of Painshill Park. I am looking forward to improving enough to be able to take a more advanced course! (Reviewed July 2020)
I recently completed the Online Beginners Photography Diploma Course.
I had only used a point & shoot camera prior to this so f/numbers, shuuter speed, aperture and ISO were a foreign language. On the course I was able to study photography in much greater detail whilst having the support of my mentor Ashley. His support, knowledge and willingness to help was invaluable.
The online tests at the end of most modules check that you understood the module, mixed with practical modules working towards your final portfolio. You can work at your own pace so no pressure or deadlines.
I have finished this course with a much greater understanding and depth of knowledge of this fabulous subject.
It was an excellent course and would thoroughly recommend it.
(Reviewed May 2020)
This was a really excellent photographic course. Delivered in an easily understandable way which has really improved my photography.. (Reviewed March 2020)
The sessions were pitched at the right level for beginners, with time taken to address questions relating to the specific cameras belonging to individuals in the group. The small numbers allowed time for everyone to ask for help or advice according to their specific needs/interests.
Each session was backed up with very helpful reference notes sent on line.
There were two practical outdoor sessions which were extremely useful, putting the theory into practice, with guidance from Ashley. (Reviewed March 2020)
Excellent course which I can highly recommend to anyone thinking of taking up photography! (Reviewed March 2020)
Having just completed the 6 week course with Ashley, all I can say is do it.
Learnt so much, which I will no progress on to take much better photos than before I started and have so much more knowledge.
I'm already looking forward to doing the weekend course.
5* (Reviewed March 2020)
This is the second course I have completed at Imber Court and both have been excellent.
The weekend was well structured encompassing a wide variety of landscapes on our first day and seascapes on the sunday. The locations were well chosen and as always Ashley was an invaluable source of information with lots of support and advice.
Excellent value for money with lots of opportunities to quiz Ashley on all apsects of photography. Totally recommend the course. (Reviewed September 2019)
Great course, well presented by Ashley. A really nice mix of structured tuition, practice, just letting you get on with it and background photography advice. Small groups make for a good informal format and lots of fun with like-minded people. Pitched at just the right level too - an assumption that you know the basics but handled in such a way that you are not embarrassed to ask silly basic questions! (Reviewed September 2019)
Very enjoyable day - opened my eyes to how to control a camera rather than the camera controlling me, which it has done for the last 50 years in auto mode.
Ashley was patient, professional & personable.
(Reviewed July 2019)
Ashley somehow cleared away all the Jargon and mystery that seems to surround photography. I came away with a clear understanding of the basics and feel sure I can take much better pictures. Now to put it into practice. (Reviewed April 2019)
I competed the one day beginners course - present for my birthday! I learnt so much on Ashley's course and gained a greater understanding of how to use my camera and what and why we use certain settings. Ashley is a lovely person to be in the company of and i felt the delivery of the course was fantastic. Would reccomend this to anyone wanting to get into photography and will be looking to attend more of Ashley's courses in the future. Thank you Ashley! (Reviewed March 2019)
The course run by Ashley was well organised, and his approach was super friendly and his explanations of basic photography techniques was really clear. He fielded and answered questions from participants gladly. Would highly recommend this course for photography novices! (Reviewed March 2019)
I attended a one day beginners photography course and found it to be excellent. Both the in classroom teaching and the practical time outside were very helpful and informative. And the customer service throughout was brilliant. (Reviewed March 2019)
I had enjoyed taking photographs for many years however as with the majority of those who take photographs, I tended to use the automatic setting. This course revealed how other settings can be used to greatly enhance the quality of the photographs taken and hence the enjoyment to be derived from this activity.
The course was presented in a relaxed and highly supportive manner such that confidence quickly grew with each module. Ashley has a warm, friendly personality with the result that ones ignorance was never seen as a problem but simply a lack of understanding that could be easily overcome.
If I have a regret it is simply that I did not take up this course many years earlier. (Reviewed December 2018)
Ashley has been an excellent tutor, explaining and teaching the group I was in, in an informative way, that his obvious experience of photography allows him to do. He explained things in plain language, without dumbing down what he was teaching me. His lessons are delivered in a relaxed way and his patience and understanding is superb. He was able to explain some of the jargon used around photography and give me a base knowledge of using my camera other than in Auto mode. His home assignments cemented what we had learned during our lessons and his providing of training material was also extremely useful. I would thoroughly recommend this company and Ashley in particular to provide any photography training. I will definitely be looking to do a follow up course. (Reviewed December 2018)
The 6 week course was very thoroughly taught and assessed by Ashley.
The mix of student abilities were all catered for and everyone gained in confidence and understanding of the various settings of their cameras.
The projects were very helpful and everyone learned quickly how to avoid poor quality pics in a variety of situations.
The practical evening was a revelation, the skills and abilities we had gained were used to produce some fabulous results. The confidence gained from this course have resulted in the best photographs I have ever taken
Thoroughly recommend this training ! (Reviewed December 2018)
Excellent one day beginners course. I got exactly what I wanted out of the course and have a much greater understanding of all the necessary requirements to take a good picture. Ashley delivered the material in an interesting, informal and fun way. For anyone lacking confidence in the use of their SLR camera or for complete beginners like myself, this is the course for you. Enjoy! (Reviewed October 2018)
Ashley managed the mixed ability course well - balancing the needs of those with less experience and/or equipment with those who were more advanced and/or had more advanced cameras.
His knew his way around all types of camera to help each delegate make the most of the equipment they had before setting off to put the theory into practice.
At the end of the day there everybody has some additional knowledge or technique they could take away to help improve their photography. (Reviewed October 2018)
What an amazing day. Knowing barely anything about my DSLR camera I enrolled on this one day workshop.
Ashley immediately put everyone at ease and his depth of knowledge (and patience) was second to none.
The day was well structured and informative with lots of tips and information to help us achieve the best out of our cameras.
After a spell outside using our newly acquired skills I was delighted to capture a bird in flight.
The follow up notes were extensive so no need to take any.
Look forward to the follow-up course
Thank you Ashley
(Reviewed October 2018)
One of the best training courses I've ever been on. Super informative - the course packs in a lot of knowledge for the day - but also very clear. No one is left behind. (Reviewed October 2018)
Ashley is passionate and driven wanting everyone to succeed. A great host good environment with stimulating projects to complete. Ashley is very approachable on and after the course. I can highly recommend this company. (Reviewed October 2018)
A excellent course that helped me understand the basic use of a DSLR camera. Ashley was an excellent tutor. The pace of information just right and relaxed enough for all participants to get involved.
Handouts sent immediately via e-mail to support learning. I have no hesitation to recommend this course and will definitely attend more courses held by this buisness (Reviewed October 2018)
Ashley's beginners course managed to dispel my belief that the auto function on my camera was the only function I could really understand. Using clear down to earth language it all makes sense and becomes achievable. Thanks to an excellent day I'm now inspired to go out and practice everything I learned. I would thoroughly recommend one of Ahleys courses for anyone that bought a camera only to feel overwhelmed by its potential or has forgotten everything they previously knew because the tuition was too brief or technical. Let Ashley come to your rescue! (Reviewed October 2018)
Great course learnt a lot and had a great day. (Reviewed October 2018)
Ashley makes everything very clear and simple. It is a very comfortable environment in which to ask any question. I came away feeling really enthusiastic about photography and determined to use all the information and advice from the day. (Reviewed October 2018)
Excellent friendly service. Level of teaching appropriate for course as advertised.
Venue allowed easy access to suitable location.Follow up documents all sent as promised.
Very happy to recommend this company to friends. (Reviewed June 2018)
The course was excellent and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Ashely's explanations with diagrams and pictures were beautifully clear.
As a result the practical part of the course - taking pictures was great fun and successful. (Reviewed May 2018)
I was given this course as a gift from my wife. I could use my camera for basic use and mostly on auto function. After spending the day with Ashley, I left the course with a much better understanding of the functions/settings/capabilities of my camera. I have a new found confidence to use my camera more, now knowing how to properly set up a good shot.
Would highly recommend this course.
5* (Reviewed April 2018)
Really enjoyed this course, always used auto on my cameras never had the confidence to use things like the aperture, ISO, Shutter speeds and White balance. Ashley showed us in easy terms how to use these and is very knowledgeable. Can't wait to practice more and then go on a further course with him. (Reviewed March 2018)
Beginners Photography Course - Ashley helped to inspire confidence in us. He explained everything to a level that we all understood. He Is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. He was very giving with his knowledge and very patient. His presentation and handouts were easy to follow. He volunteered expert tips and hints and chose an excellent location for us to put all the learning into practice. He even brought bread for the birds so we could get some spectacular shots of seagulls flying. Ashley certainly went the extra mile for us. I would thoroughly recommend this course and I am looking forward to attending further courses of his. Fantastic way to spend my time with someone who makes learning easy. Excellent 5 star +++ (Reviewed March 2018)
A thoroughly enjoyable course that has given me the confidence and knowledge to switch off the automatic setting on my camera. I can now create images using the key functions of White Balance, ISO, Shutter Speed, Aperture and Histograms and am having great fun. Thank you! (Reviewed March 2018)
This is one of the best decision I ever made for taking course.
After comprehensive 6 weeks lecture, I no longer use Auto mode in my camera.
Ashley is the best and so patient in teaching.
I will definitely recommend this course to my friends and family. (Reviewed March 2018)
The course was very thorough with a mixture of instruction and practical. I've learned so much about my camera and feel much more confident using it to get the images I want.
Ashley was so helpful and supportive. (Reviewed February 2018)
Very clear and well presented with a chance to practise thrown in. (Reviewed February 2018)
A really enjoyable basic photography training day from Ashley. Well paced and friendly. Ashley has a lovely personality and put everyone at ease. I have learned so much about my camera and look forward to being able to take better photos. (Reviewed February 2018)
In awe of Ashley's knowledge of camera's and his ability to demystify them to me. Although have had my Lumix for 2 years, had only used as a "point and shoot" on automatic settings. Ashley very patiently took me through all the settings and showed how to achieve the style of photos that I need for my business. Immense amount of knowledge to take in as was a one on one day course, but cannot fault anything about the day. Given my lack of empathy with technology, it was highly impressive that Ashley managed to explain without confusing me. Would highly recommend to anyone, but especially if you're wanting to take your photography to the next level. Thank you Ashley for your patience. (Reviewed October 2017)
Having brought a digital camera and being new to photography, I took the beginners photography to find out how to use it and how to actually take a photo! Before I took the course, the camera scared me, all the buttons and different adjustments were quite daunting. Ashley was absolutely amazing, his knowledge on digital cameras is incredible and he taught me everything I needed to know in simple terms! I now feel confident in using my camera and cannot wait to get practising. Thank you Ashley! (Reviewed October 2017)
Ashley, the trainer, provides an excellent introduction to using your DSLR camera - no matter what make or model - and explains the basics for taking good photographs.
The course is friendly and fun, suitable for all ages and competencies and the support offered is ongoing.
I can thoroughly recommend this course if you want to understand and make the most of your camera. You will be very impressed at the improvement in your photography skills. (Reviewed October 2017)
Ashley provided a great day in teach us how to use all the controls on our cameras instead of the Auto function. He was clear and patient and made sure that everyone, no matter their ability, understood. The practical side was excellent and he spent time with each of us to ensure that we understood how to use the camera. I have been involved in training myself and Ashley's approach is highly successful (Reviewed July 2017)
I had a lovely day learning to use my camera with Ashley. We were a group of various aged and ability students but the whole day was relaxed and informative. Ashley made sure we that we all understood what he had said and that we were able to put it into practice.
'There is no such thing as a stupid question' was the mantra for the day.
I would absolutely recommend the day. (Reviewed July 2017)
I was very much looking forward to the Photography holiday in the Spanish Mountains with Imber Court Photo Training and I was not disappointed. Nothing was too much trouble for Ashley. All the arrangements from the hotel to the minibus were excellent and Ashley was always on hand to ask for photography advice. I would definitely recommend Imber Court Photo Training to anyone who wants to learn how to take great shots and combine it with a wonderful holiday. (Reviewed May 2017)
Went on a 5 day photographic holiday to Northern Spain with Ashley and had the most fantastic time. From the initial booking, subsequent correspondences, flight with BA, the choice of hotel to the overall holiday experience, it was all 5 star. Nothing was too much trouble for Ashley in ensuring we all had the tuition we required and having a good time. Would certainly highly recommend this trip to anyone. Well done and thank you Ashley :) (Reviewed May 2017)
Ashley worked very hard during the 5 days of the trip driving us around to some great locations to take photos of scenery and wildlife. He gave some great help about using and adjusting camera settings. The hotel he organised was very comfortable and the meals enormous. The flights with BA were fine. (Reviewed May 2017)
Excellent service. Thoroughly recommend. (Reviewed May 2017)
Ashley was an engaging and knowledgeable teacher and I came away from the course feeling inspired and eager to try out my new skills! Highly recommended. (Reviewed April 2017)
I attended the three day beginners course with Imber Court Photo Training, and I have to say it was absolutely fantastic! Ashley is wonderfully helpful and has extensive expertise when it comes to cameras. I am now officially a convert to using only aperture priority/shutter speed priority/manual. Want to learn what all this jargon means? Then I suggest you book a course with Imber Court! (Reviewed March 2017)
An excellent course combining just the right balance of practical with theoretical tutoring in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I now feel that I have a good understanding of my camera and the basic concepts of photography. It has instilled me with confidence to experiment and an enthusiasm that is driving me to learn more. Great course Ashley, can't wait to do some more! (Reviewed March 2017)
A really enjoyable, informative course. Rather than ploughing through the user manual and trying to work out the endless buttons and sub menus, I'd advise everyone to take this course. Having someone show you and walk you through is a much more effective and enjoyable way to learn. The follow-up PDFs outlining what was covered the night before (Including practical tasks) were also very helpful.. (Reviewed March 2017)
This was the first time I had taken a night class, and I was very impressed at the level of care that was taken with each individual. I feel at long last I understand the functions of my camera. Thank you Ashley. I look forward to our next training session. (Reviewed March 2017)
This was an excellent course which exceeded my expectations. By the end of the course my understanding of my camera settings has given me the knowledge and confidence to move away from the automatic setting.
The mix of theory and practical helped to consolidate skills and knowledge. The locations for the practical sessions were also very motivational.
Ashley was very knowledgeable and explained concepts clearly. Being a small group also meant that there was time for everyone and a friendly, supportive environment. (Reviewed March 2017)
I attended a beginners' photography course and it did what it said very well - ie gave me the confidence to move away from automatic mode. I learnt a quick and easy way to decide when to prioritise shutter speed and when aperture; how to make the necessary adjustments and understood the 'theory' behind it. The whole experience was really enjoyable. Ashley even made us tea! (Reviewed February 2017)
What an uplifting day! For an ancient old beginner like me, bewildered by most things digital, I came away knowing I had really learnt the essential basics of producing decent photographs - digital fear and AUTO now consigned to the bin! Ashley is the most excellent tutor, and explains the basics in plain English and an easily comprehended way - essential for absolute beginners - I really felt I understood the system and how it all worked and interacted. I can't wait to get out and start practising yesterday's lessons.
Apart from this, the day is enormous fun!! Numbers are small (there were only seven of us, so Ashley was able to give each of us individual attention when required), lots of humour and, as for me, I reckon the 1 day beginner's course is enormous value for money! (Reviewed February 2017)
Really enjoyable day course and I learnt far more than I was expecting. Would thoroughly recommend and look forward to attending another course as appropriate. Excellent and great value for money. Giselle (Reviewed October 2016)
The course was a portrait photography course As always it was well delivered and I learnt how to take portrait photographs so the course did just as it says on the tin! (Reviewed May 2016)
I attended a Beginners Photgraphic course given by Ashley and Dave of Imber Court Photo Training. The class size was 8. I found the course to be informative, well delivered and professional with humour thrown in for good measure. It probably will not be the last course that I attend and I cannot recommend them highly enough. If anyone wants to be taught a thorough grounding on DSLR photography then Imber Court is the company to go to. (Reviewed May 2016)
Ashley and David at Imber Court Photo Training have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to photography and the photography business.
I attended one of their training courses and the level of service is the best value for money, professional and well delivered training I have ever received on any subject!
So in summary I have no hesitation in recommending them and anyone considering them can definitely buy with confidence as they will receive an excellent service. (Reviewed May 2016)
Absolutely brilliant! (Reviewed May 2016)
I was really pleased with the smallness of the group, (5) which allowed the tutor to really spend time with our individual queries. He was clear and patient and very helpful. (Reviewed May 2016)
From having no knowledge of how to operate a DSLR camera the day before the course, to my vowing never to use the automatic settings again - just a day later, is completely due to Ashley's outstanding teaching methods. This course was fantastic and I have already booked onto further courses. I would very highly recommend Imber Court Photo Training (and already have, to family and friends). (Reviewed May 2016)
Well run course with excellent client to trainer ratio. Learnt much during the weekend (Reviewed May 2016)
A very enjoyable, interactive and beneficial course which requires a basic level of photograph composition skill and DSLR knowledge to get the most out of the tuition, which was of coaching nature rather than formal direction and teaching. The core part of the course is the multiple selected locations field photo-shoots which really did help develop my photographic eye and familiarity with my camera and equipment, including extensive and rewarding use of the tripod. I also found the final Photoshop image editing session to be very beneficial with valuable direction and encouraging comments on my efforts from Ashley and David! I came away from the course buzzing with new enthusiasm and feeling like a proper photographer (Reviewed April 2016)
The team were really attentive and clearly cared that we, as course participants, gleaned as much value as possible from the 4 hands on days. Good work! (Reviewed April 2016)
I have attended several courses with Ashley and David from Imber Court Photo Training, both in Surrey and at their Birdham studio. I have always found their practical approach to photography training and their wealth of experience to provide a course which is both excellent and fun. This was certainly the case with the two-day Improvers course I took part in last week. Our group was quickly made to feel at home at the introductory session starting the course where we given our tasks for the day. We visited a variety of sites carefully researched to provide the opportunity to hone our landscape skills. For me the highlights were, beside the beautiful landscapes provided by the Sussex downs, was the visit to a remote garage and store apparently frozen in time. Their star assistant, Terry, was pleased to pose for us to get some portrait experience. Day one concluded with a visit to Goodwood racing and experiment with photographing cars and planes performing at speed.
The second day concentrated on coastal photography visiting sites such as Bosham and Selsey. In all the locations both of the trainers were constantly on hand to give help advice and constructive criticism.
The course concluded with a session in the studio downloading and processing some of the images taken on the course.
The care taken in designing a programme such as this was apparent in the variety of locations and types of photographic opportunities provided for us on each day.
In all an excellent two-day course that I would recommend to anyone who has mastered the basics of photography and wishes to take their interest to a higher level.

Ashley has particularly good inter-personal skills, and both are supremely confident and competent in their field, able to convey technical information effectively to their course participants. They have invested a lot of time and effort to discover great locations for photography, providing variety and different challenges for us to master. (Reviewed April 2016)
Ashley and David provided a very informative, relaxed, fun weekend on improving your photography skills. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend and came away with a greater understanding of my camera and lots of enthusiasm. I would highly recommend this weekend to anyone wanting to take their photography to the next level.

This is the third course I have attended with this company and definitely not the last. Ashley and David are extremely knowledgeable and excellent at coaching you to achieve great results. They make you feel comfortable and relaxed which makes this a great experience. They provided an excellent range of photo opportunities to help us develop our skills and were always on hand to provide support and ideas. The group was a nice size and all at the same stage which meant you could get the most from the time available.
I can't recommend this company more highly. (Reviewed April 2016)
This is the second time I have used Imber court photography training, I was instantly made to feel welcome. Ashley & Dave are such great teachers, professional and approachable and very wise! My knowledge and my confidence in using my Nikon has grown enormously and that is down to the support, encouragement and time given to me from both Ashley & Dave. I thoroughly enjoyed the Portrait and Wedding Photography course, I learnt so much in the four days, but more so about what style of photography I like and perhaps about what route I want to take.
I am also working towards completing their Imber court online Diploma, for me this is great as I complete the modules in my own time, refreshing my exsisting knowledge and learning as I go. With an added bonus that Ashley is my mentor through the whole process. :)
Ashley & Dave have been such a great support to me from the beginning, I know this will continue as I grow into the professional photographer I strive to be.
Thank you Ashley & Dave for your continuous support through my photography journey.
I highly recommend Imber Court photography training. They truly know there stuff and are always welcoming, willing to help, give advice....with a cupa tea and a chat :)

I really enjoyed the get to know my camera course and after the day with Ashley and David I feel a lot happier to use the other settings and not just stick to the auto mode. I intend to do a night time course with Imber in the autumn. (Reviewed March 2016)
Excellent course! Wonderful day with enthusisastic teachers who aimed at a great beginner level and I felt I went away having learnt a lot and feeling a lot more comfortable with my camera. Being honest much more useful and incuded more than I thought it would.. perfect for all different types of people wanted to get into photography. And tailor it to your own camera. Very approachable and I would definitely use again for more courses. Thank you! (Reviewed March 2016)
My husband bought a days 1:1 training with Ashley as a birthday gift for me. It proved to be enlightening, enjoyable and educational. Ashley came to our home and, having talked about what I was hoping to achieve when we booked in the date, he came with a power point presentation and took me through how to use my various cameras in easy memorable steps. Previously I've only used Automatic mode with varying degrees of success - now I feel able to experiment with techniques!
He explained things very well and made it comfortable to ask questions and get practical tips and by the end of the day I felt confident and able to try using the camera to get interesting new effects. I've grasped what I need to do and how to go about it and I shall be out and about practising. (Reviewed February 2016)
Very enjoyable day ,the course is very informative easy to understand and nothing was too much trouble for them to go over again. (Reviewed February 2016)
I attended the Beginners Digital Photography 1-day course and it was exactly what I had been looking for. Ashley and Dave are very experienced and knowledgable but make everything easily understandable for the absolute novice. The level and amount of information was just right, and the balance between theory and practice perfect so that I went away with a confidence that I can now start to take some great photos. All of this was carried out in a relaxed, friendly environment. Thanks guys! (Reviewed February 2016)
Beginner's course. This was a valuable introduction in pleasant surroundings. I learnt the way round my camera, how it works and how to look after it. The interplay between the various settings that determine correct exposure were explained. We left 'auto setting' behind and gained practical experience with depth of field and moving shots. Many questions were answered including some guidance on producing the good photograph. That is what we will all be aiming for. Ashley and David, thank you for getting us off the starting blocks. (Reviewed February 2016)
The training day was a really good experience. The group size was just right and we all appeared to be novices. All questions were answered courteously and I learned enough to start taking photography more seriously. It would be helpful to have feedback on photographs taken in the future and I believe that there is a course starting in April which I hope to attend. The trainers worked well together to make the day really enjoyable. The tea/coffee and biscuits were also good. (Reviewed February 2016)
The Photography Course that I attended was a 'Beginners 1 Day DSLR Workshop' with Ashley Gardner at Paines Hill Park in Cobham. Ashley was a very good trainer, explaining the workings of DSLR cameras very well.
It was very easy to ask questions in relation to my particular camera (Canon EOS 700D), anything that I didn't understand or extra information that I needed - particularly within the small group of eight trainees on the course.
Although we did go outside to put our knowledge into practice in the use of our cameras, the wet weather restricted this particular part of the course somewhat - but this was of course beyond Ashley's control.
The course has transformed my knowledge of the workings of my camera; it now remains for me to put into practice the knowledge that I have gained!
I would highly recommend this course to any budding DSLR photographer! (Reviewed November 2015)
This is the second course I have attended with Ashley and David. They operate in an extremely friendly, professional and relaxed setting. I always come away buzzing that I have picked up so much more knowledge from them, and the reason for that is that they explain things so well with patience and humour, that you cannot fail to understand what they are communicating to you. I hope to continue my photographic training with them in the future. (Reviewed October 2015)
Excellent and worthwhile training from a friendly, patient and knowledgeable teacher. Would always recommend. (Reviewed October 2015)
Ashley & Dave at Imber court photo training are amazing, I have done 2 courses now, the 3rd day beginner course and the portrait course and couldn't be happier with the amount of knowledge I have walked away with! Would 100% recommend to anyone, they are also there after the course for that extra support if you need anything!
Great job guys & Thank you

Its not often I give 100% reviews but the beginners photography course I just did with Imbercourt was quite simply superb. I have really tried but struggled with photography for years but in just one day with Ashley Gardner things fell into place like magic; and so simple and very relaxed. Top marks. (Reviewed October 2015)
This was the second photography course at Imber Court I have attended. The level of tutor expertise is very high and the teaching is very much student focussed.
Highly recommend their courses. (Reviewed October 2015)
The day was excellent, as a senior citizen whose little grey cells don't always work as fast a they used to, Ashley was very patient. Came home with a lot of knowledge and information. There was a good balance of classroom and practical work really friendly relaxed atmosphere. Will certainly look to doing another course in the future. (Reviewed October 2015)
I was very happy with the service provided. The communication was very efficient. David was punctual and he is an excellent and very patient teacher and took his time in explaining things to me, and was always making sure that I have understood everything.
I have learnt a lot from him and am looking forward to putting all the new knowledge into practice.
Thanks to Ashley and his team. (Reviewed August 2015)
Fantastic course, well presented in such a logical way it was easy to grasp. Plenty of encouragement and opportunities to practice and ask questions. Highly recommend this training company. (Reviewed August 2015)
Informative, interesting, educational and inspiring course. I would definitely recommend Imber Court Photography for a 3 day introductory course to DSLR Photography. The content was clearly explained and the supporting materials were simple, yet effective. I have learnt a lot from this course. (Reviewed August 2015)
Very informative with a relaxed teaching environment which made me feel comfortable to answer questions without feeling foolish. My knowledge increased significantly during the course and I believe I now have the skills to take a decent shot. (Reviewed August 2015)
Ashley's instruction exceeded our expectations in every area. He was patient, clear and dealt with two very different learning levels (mum and teenage daughter) Practically he was brilliant guiding us to take great images that we were proud of on the day and giving us a permanent record of various settings and their effects to look back on.He made helpful recommendations for moving forward both in terms of equipment (he stopped us buying a more expensive and inappropriate tripod) and in post production software, We were both delighted and will certainly be returning to learn more (Reviewed August 2015)
The course was brilliant and the instructor made everything so simple which allowed everyone to understand all the different functions of the camera such as Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. He also told us how to take different types of photos where we could blur the foreground or background. Would definitely recommend to anyone that has little knowledge on using their camera and to GET OFF the Auto setting. (Reviewed July 2015)
I engaged the training services of Ashley to help me understand my camera and photography to enable me to take high quality images and develop them for use within our business. This was a one to one day course and worth every penny and more, I feel confident to undertake all we need for our business and will be following it with some extra in depth training on software in a few weeks. It was an enjoyable day and has also ignited a passion for photography as a hobby. (Reviewed July 2015)
This was a fantastic one day intro to DSLR camera training and I learned a great deal! thank you Ashley. (Reviewed July 2015)
As a beginner to DSLR photography this was a brilliant 1 day course. Within the first hour i felt i had my money's worth. Ashley is a fantastic tutor and i cant recommend his courses highly enough. Far exceeded my expectations. Thank you. (Reviewed July 2015)
Ashley was a superb teacher, explained everything in a language that was easy to understand .He was very patient and answered everyone's questions honestly and clearly. The venue was ideal and the facilities for lunch and refreshment were superb and very reasonably priced. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn the basics of photography and will enrol myself on an improvers course when I've had time to hone the skills I've learnt on this one (Reviewed July 2015)
I attended the Beginner's 1 day DSLR workshop. The whole day was excellent. A mixture of lectures & practical. Ashley knows his subject inside out and is an excellent trainer. I now know how to use my DSLR camera. Beforehand I just used to use it on automatic. A lot of fun and a very valuable day. Great value for money and highly recommended. (Reviewed July 2015)

The 1 Day Beginners DSLR Course at Painshill Park on Saturday 27th June 2015 was absolutely perfect for my needs. Ashley & David worked wonderfully in tandem (like any good double act) and keep the interest level and pace just right for our group of 10.
I would HIGHLY recommend this course and hope to join the lads on more advanced courses in the future . . . . . once I remember how to take my camera off 'auto' !!! (Reviewed July 2015)
The course was really good, I felt I learnt a huge amount from it and would recommend this to anybody, in fact I already have to two people already. (Reviewed June 2015)
Excellent interaction and very clear and easy to understand the course. We were beginners and they didn't talk down to you but explained very clearly how to use the settings and we worked inside and went outside to photograph using what we had learned. It was done in a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone felt very much at home and not embarrassed to ask basic questions about the camera. Would not hesitate whatsoever recommending to anyone - in fact have already done so - will definitely think about doing the next course up once I have mastered what I have learned so far. Thank you (Reviewed June 2015)
Ashley was a great teacher. He was patient and no question was ever too silly for him to answer in detail. The course was great for absolute beginners and Ashley explained basic camera concepts in layman terms. There were only three of us and we were given undivided attention during the day. (Reviewed June 2015)
I have now completed several courses provided by Imber Court Photographic Training. I began with the Beginners course, and was immediately made to feel welcome by the tutors. I am much older than many of the students but was treated with courteously and respect as were all the other students. We were all made to feel that no question was silly, and there were many questions. The content of the course was delivered in a combined theory and practical way, which ensured that the basic skills were developed as we progressed through course. The tutors provided individual feedback for our efforts. The language used was technical without being jargon filled, and the delivery of the information was at a pace we could all understand, before moving onto the next section. By the end of the course I was determined that this should be the start of something more. I have subsequently competed the advanced and portrait courses. I would recommend these basic course to anyone who has invested in a DSLR camera, and is not sure how to get the best from it.
I joined a course in Spain for the four day course held in the Picos do Europa. Since I live in Portugal the tutors made allowances for me not to travel with them but to meet up with them at the hotel. During the four days I learnt so much more. It was a very practical course and had obviously been planed well. Each day in the morning we were told what the objective of the day was. The tutors provided the transport and took us to some of the most spectacular areas. They gave us help with some of the techniques needed to capture different aspects of composition. The evenings were spent reviewing some of the days work. Opportunities for the students to discus what was good or needed to be changed. This is an excellent hands on student led course, where the tutors have prepared well and are there to help get more from the photographs you take. Highly recommended.
Mentorship Course. For the past two years I have enrolled for the mentoring scheme run by this organisation, and have just signed up for a further year. These courses are provided by the tutor setting a project for one month. The information given is clear and some guidance is given on how to complete the project. After sending the photographs to the tutor I receive constructive feedback within one week. The projects have been many and varied and does make me go out and use my camera in a very different way. It has made me become much more focused and disciplined in when, where and how I take photographs. If I have any difficulty I know that the tutor is available by either telephone or email. For someone how knows how to use the camera, but still needs confidence in the use of the camera this is the course for them. (Reviewed June 2015)
I would highly recommend ICPT's photography courses, the trainers are friendly, well-prepared and extremely passionate about their subject. The learning is very hands-on with much of it taking place outside of the classroom under the expert guidance of Ashley and Dave. In my opinion this is the best way to learn any new skill. (Reviewed June 2015)
Outstanding! This was a photography trip to the Rajastan area of India. It was a wonderful cultural experience as well as an exceptional photographic opportunity. The combination of an experienced local guide throughout the trip and Ashley's photographic guidance made this a holiday to remember. Well organised - nothing was too much trouble - and great fun. This was one of a number of courses/photographic holidays I have attended with Imber Court photo training - Always professionally run but in a relaxed and easy to understand manner. I will definitely be doing some more! (Reviewed May 2015)
I've done several courses with Imber Court Photo Training and I've always found them all very informative and fun as well.

I have been using Imber Court Photo Training since 2010. i have enjoyed several of their courses and keep returning because of their experience and knowledge, and the ease with which they pass it on to the students. Their training is always informative and good fun. The way they make the students feel at ease despite the varying levels of experience is testament to their hard work. (Reviewed May 2015)
I have used this company for the last couple of years to develop my photography. I have found them both to be very friendly, informative and encouraging. Would definitely recommend. (Reviewed May 2015)
Ashley & David are total professionals, with the ability to teach mixed ability students, giving all levels time and patience - I have been on many other courses, which have failed to teach me anything. I have not looked back and never use Automatic settings as I now very comfortable with my white balance, apperture and exposure balance. I am v dyslexic and used tostruggle with to understand camera settings - not anymore - thank you Ashley & David (Reviewed May 2015)
Excellent, knowledgeable tutors who offer very friendly face to face tutorials or on-line support depending on which course you enrol with. I have learnt many photographic skills from Imber Court and recommend them to other people I meet. (Reviewed May 2015)

I booked a course with Ashley Gardner of Imber Court Photo Training two years ago and from the moment I applied for the course I was met with outstanding levels of service. I was replied to immediately and booked on.
The course was so good that I booked another! Since the second course I have had so much support from Ashley and his team who can never give you enough time.
I thoroughly recommend Ashley and his team who run courses from two sites making the choice greater. Ashley also runs courses abroad which I'm told are fantastic by other budding photographers who have been on them.
I am now two years later, a fully fledged professional sports photographer with an agency which would never have happened without all the mentoring from Ashley, top bloke, great courses! (Reviewed May 2015)
