Ian installed toilet and douch(toilet jet). When he came to see the job he mentioned that he would have to take hot and cold feed from downstairs which would require quite a lot of material, digging etc and he would get material. His overall assessment about the job was poor and my wife(architect) kept helping him in making right decision. He gave me a quote of 400£ which I found quite expensive however he said he would get one more guy with him to do the job and also material would cost him a lot. On the day the whole job was done by his partner in 4 hours,he did nothing. Also his partner found the extra hot and cold feed in the toilet so they didn't have to use any of the material which they quoted and still charged me the full amount. The whole job was worth 200£ and he charged double.
TRADER RESPONSE:
In response to the concerns raised by the client may I take this opportunity to reply:
Assessment of Work.
When assessing the work and discussing options it initially appeared that the water feed would have to be taken from downstairs given tiled bathroom.
Then clients wife showed location of obscured outside feed that was an option to use.
I feel it critical to state that my assessment of the work was poor, I was working with the clients best option.
With regards to the verbal quote for £400 this was given in writing and agreed by client.
He did endeavour to haggle on price but the quote had been agreed and accepted.
On the day of install myself and my co-worker worked as a team.
With regards to the install the water supply was taken from another source allowing for a much neater job, which however was more labour intensive and time consuming, balancing out the additional labour costs against pipework as not needed purchasing.
I am somewhat perplexed why the client decided to proceed with me after receiving his verbal and written quotation after my assessment which he described as being poor and stating the job was worth £200, yet accepting the quote of £400 and then trying to negotiate the price down.
