G&M Roofing were employed as a contractor to install a roof on an extension, which Gordon undertook single-handedly. Unfortunately, it has transpired that Building Control will not pass the roof, as there is inadequate ventilation for the type of slate used, and the roof should have been battened and counter battened, which it was not.Unfortunately, both G&M Roofing (the contractor) and the builder have ceased communication, and will not engage further regarding this issue. Having paid in full already, we are now having to employ the services of an alternative roofer, which is going to cost us thousands, in order to get signed off by Building Control. This has been a dreadful experience, and entirely unsatisfactory. As a 'Buy With Confidence' member, we would have expected so much more. Avoid.
G&M Roofing's Response: This is a very upsetting situation we all find ourselves in.
We were asked by a local building company to get involved with a project that a different builder had started, the customers had a number of issues with the previous builder and the contract had been terminated. One of the issues was that the tiles on the extension roof did not match the slates on the main roof, we then supplied two options of man made slate delivered to the home address of the customer and they selected the Jutland Cembrite slate, that would match the main roof. All the work was carried out as to the architectural drawing which clearly states roof covering to match existing and does not show the requirement of counter battens in the drawings or written description, these drawing were supplied to us by the build company who received them from the customer. This has turned out not be the case, and we believe the architect must have made a error with the design. We are sure the customer would not have been very happy if we had also not followed the architects drawing as was proven with the original builder.
We have been working with the builder that commissioned us to carry out the work to find a solution to the problem and have revisited the property on two occasions, we have fitted an abutment vent to the top of the extension roof free of charge to see if this will easy the problem, unfortunately the situation would have seemed to of escalated and it could now be difficult to solve, as the relationship would seem to have broken down.
Consumer's Response: G&M Roofing stated they supplied us with 2 options of slate,& that we selected Jutland Cembrit.Considering we had never even heard of this slate until receipt of the quotation from the building company which stated it,& simply trusted that this was the appropriate slate for our roof,we cannot possibly be held accountable.G&M Roofing have also attempted to scapegoat the architect, yet full architectural plans were formally approved in writing by the local authority months prior to G&M Roofing's input, therefore there aren't any architectural errors, disproving G&M Roofing's theory. As a Trading Standards approved roofer, this company should be fully conversant with current building regulations, yet it has become apparent that they are not. They have made some very grave errors with our roof,& unfortunately, are unprepared to accept responsibility or reimburse us,thus should not remain as a Trading Standards approved member. Gordon came along with his ladder on a Saturday morning, which was within a day or so of initial contact, he investigated the chimney gutter/flashing problems I was having, we discussed it, afterwards he sent through a written quote, carried out the work a week later and helpfully provided me with photos to show what he had done, as the area was inaccessible to me. The work looks very neat in the photos. We have had several periods of rain since and so far no further ingress of water, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. There were no extra costs - work was done to quoted price. (Reviewed December 2018)
Very happy with work done, clean and tidy. The workers were very polite and helpful and left no mess. Given the adverse weather they were really quick to do the roof repairs. (Reviewed April 2018)

Scaffold company used by G&M was excellent, tidy, polite and on time.
G&M came on the day they stated, they were professional and the area left spotless when they finished. The work itself was excellent and I would highly recommend their services. (Reviewed March 2017)

I found them through this website. They fixed my mother's roof during the past week and they were exceptionally good. During the initial visit they carried out a temporary repair, and later did an excellent job of the permanent repair at a very reasonable price. The person carrying out the repair (Gordon) was very kind and considerate throughout the process. (Reviewed December 2014)
Excellent job, very good value, extremely professional. Would definately use them again. (Reviewed December 2014)
