The Buy With Confidence Scheme helps consumers to find businesses they can trust. It is not mandatory for businesses to be a member of the Buy With Confidence scheme, but anyone who does join will have to pass a series of background checks, and will continue to be monitored throughout the duration of membership. For the scheme to work properly, it may be necessary to disclose some information concerning you and/or your business which is not normally available to the general public, for example, this may include your membership status or details of compliments or complaints made about your business.
The Buy With Confidence Scheme respects your privacy and scheme operators and Buy With Confidence Partnership will handle any private information in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act 2018 (the British enactment of the European General Data Protection Regulations – GDPR). We will not sell your data. However please do note that:
– we may contact third parties, including your previous customers, to assess suitability for membership or to resolve a dispute.
- we may publish on our website(s) customer reviews and comments.
- we may disclose or publish information about why a membership has ceased or been terminated.
The Buy With Confidence Scheme is run by public authorities, bound by The Data Protection Act 2018, The Enterprise Act 2002 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 / Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. By applying to join the scheme or being a member, you are giving your consent to disclose or publish information which is covered by these Acts, and you agree to hold us harmless from any action arising through human rights or defamation laws. All such information will be handled sensitively and consideration will be given to the interests of the business as well as the integrity of the scheme. We hope that in the vast majority of cases, the information we hold will be positive but if you should have any questions about privacy or data protection, please contact your scheme operator for the guidance that will apply to you.
For further details about how we handle personal data concerning member businesses or businesses that have applied to Buy With Confidence, please refer to our Privacy Policy.
